Guest Posting at Healing, Empowering, and Thriving

Hi all,

I’m guest posting today over at Phil Dzialo’s wonderful blog. My post When Preserving Life is Considered a Nuisance: What’s Wrong with This Picture? discusses the recent protest by a group of Florida parents against the accommodations provided to a first-grader with a severe allergy. Please come over and add your voices to the conversation!

I read the post, and wanted to come back to comment.
I’ve overheard similar sentiments over the years about peanut allergies inconveniencing families, and was appalled then, as now, at the lack of understanding and crap-headedness.
I hope people who make these sort of statements might have the decency to be embarrassed at their statements if they had to listen to them recorded and played back to them (but I doubt it).
    Thought-provoking writing and perspective.

    • Thanks, Ben. Like you, I’m not sure that these folks could be convinced of their own short-sightedness. There’s too much denial about the seriousness of the situation. The subtext seems to be “Oh, it really couldn’t be that bad, but if you keep insisting that it is, please remove your child from our midst.”
